Sudanese Dinka Shield - Metal
Handmade by the Dinka people. The Dinka are legendary cattle keepers of South Sudan. The Dinka hold traditional values and the way of life with intense pride even though having constantly been confronted by civil war and change.
Through the war, the Dinka spirit managed to survive and their unique relationship with their cattle had outlasted the turmoil but the Dinka had virtually lost their unique creative identity, their body beadwork having been exchanged for Kalashnikov rifles and safety.
This shield was designed to deflect an opponent's blow is a testament to the Dinkas resilience and solidarity. A shield of this material was only used to settle internal disputes rather than external warfare as it is only effective against fighting sticks and clubs.
Due to the nature of handcraft items, there will be slight imperfections on the surfaces.
