The Good Man - Bronze Benin sculpture
Benin bronze objects were used in West Africa as a form of currency. Their value lies in both the metal used and the adornment created on the statue.
Benin sculptures are made using the ancient lost-wax method of casting meaning only one unique item can be made from each wax model. The wax model is carefully sheathed in clay and is then heated to set the clay and liquefy the wax. Once it has cooled, the clay is then carefully chipped away!
